JUBA —President Salva Kiir Mayardit has had a meeting with his Presidential Advisor for Peace, Peter Charleman Chawai, as the government continues its mission to promote peace, stability, and political dialogue in South Sudan.
This meeting comes at a crucial time as the country works on implementing the Revitalised Peace Agreement while gearing up for the next stage of its political transition.
Charleman stepped into the role of Presidential Advisor for Peace in March 2026, taking over from Moses Gatkuoth.
In this position, Charleman is at the forefront of advising the presidency on peace-related issues, fostering dialogue, and engaging with political and other stakeholders.
President Kiir has consistently highlighted the need to push forward the peace process and collaborate with regional and international partners. In June, IGAD reiterated its support for South Sudan's peace process and democratic transition during a high-level meeting with Kiir.
Thus, this latest meeting with the peace advisor can be seen as part of a larger effort by Juba to enhance political dialogue and regional diplomacy.
Kiir has also recently expressed South Sudan's readiness to aid peace efforts in neighboring Sudan, underscoring the link between stability in Sudan and peace in South Sudan.
