Lt. Gen. Rin Tueny Mabor Deng is back in the saddle as the caretaker governor of Lakes State. This comes after President Salva Kiir decided to dissolve the transitional government and bring in caretaker officials.
Rin first took on the role of Governor of Lakes State in June 2021, following his time as the Chief of Military Intelligence for the SSPDF. During his previous term, research organizations noted that he made significant strides in reducing inter-communal violence and enhancing security. However, his tough approach to security also drew some criticism and sparked controversy.
He stepped down from the governorship on January 19, 2026, when President Kiir appointed Madhang Majok Meen to take over.
Now, Rin is back at the forefront of Lakes State, steering the ship during this caretaker phase as the state gears up for the upcoming elections.
